The 5,000-square-foot space features an 800-degree brick pizza oven, an exposition station which regularly serves freshly made stir-fry and doubles as a carving station for meats and fish, an extensive salad bar, a dessert area, a flat-top/griddle station for cooked to order omelettes and hamburgers. and two hot-food areas on either side of the servery.
Many Rice students go off campus for Saturday dinner because the serveries all are closed at that time.
Nearby restaurants are located in Rice Village. The Village is within walking distace, but a free shuttle service is also provided to Rice Village: it runs Friday and Saturday night from 5:30 pm - 12:30 am. Buses come every 25-30 minutes on Friday and every 15 minutes on Saturday. Rice's free iPhone app includes a shuttle bus tracking service.
Other restaurants can be reached by bike, car, or metro. Duncan College is a short walk from the Rice U metro stop, and many students take it to Midtown and Downtown restaurants. For more information on Houston restaurants, please visit the Houston page.
All on-campus students are required to purchase an unlimited meal plan, which includes 19 meals a week. Additionally, 5 guest swipes are included, which are recommended for occasions such as Families Weekend and Homecoming. $50 in Tetra Points is preloaded onto student's Rice ID, which can be used for campus businesses such as The Hoot (open for late night food in the RMC), Rice Coffeehouse, Willy's Pub, and RechargeU (located in the Student Center).
Off-campus and graduate students may purchase a meal plan through Housing and Dining.
West Servery is open 6 days a week (Sunday-Friday) for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Brunch is served on Sunday in place of breakfast and lunch.
